MEET IZZY!

1 farm + 2 families = FARMILY

Hi! I’m Izzy Vetterman, I am currently a sophomore at Northland College studying Natural Resources with an emphasis on fisheries and wildlife management. I love to spend my free time enjoying the outdoors. Rock climbing, hiking, and art are just a few of my passions.

SUMMER JOB ON A HEMP FARM

Working with Lake Country Growers in the summer of 2019 was an unforgettable experience. Being able to work hands-on with the hemp plants was really exciting for me. As someone who didn’t grow up on a farm, I learned a lot while working out in the field. At the end of every day, I was always satisfied with the work I had done, no matter how tiring it could be. It was empowering knowing that I was apart of a business that would help so many people in my community. I can’t wait to get back to working and learning with the FARMILY again this summer.

TALES FROM THE FARM

I’ll never forget the first day of planting out on the farm. The day consisted of six kids and adults scrambling behind the tractor trying to properly plug hemp plants into holes left in the ground. Between trying to keep up with the tractor, not running into other people while rushing down the narrow rows, not damaging the plants, and fighting against the dust-filled wind, it was a full mental and physical workout. We had a whole variety of makeshift tools that we used to scoop dirt into the holes made by the tractor, such as tin cans, plastic cups, and dustpans. I can’t imagine what we all looked like to any sane person driving past the field that day. I left the farm defeated, sunburnt under the layers of dirt on my skin, and fully exhausted. Within the 10 hours, we only completed about four rows out of ninety-six rows. Luckily, by the next day, our working process was way more efficient and we kissed our dustpans goodbye. It took us 10 days to complete the planting but despite all of the stress, nasty tan lines, and improvised problem solving we endured.

FARMILY ATTITUDE

We are so blessed to have Izzy as part of our FARMILY. She is an integral part of the team. Helping organize the younger kids on the weeding crew, mowing 96 rows of hemp, applying fish emulsion, and of course, hand planting 20,000 plants were some of the more challenging jobs but she did them all with a smile. Izzy embodies what our FARMILY is all about. Stop by and say HI to Izzy at one of our local farmer’s markets this summer.
